Mayan Cruise Itinerary

DAY 1:  DEPARTURE DAY  (Galveston) 

Saturday, February 29 

  • We’ll leave aboard the Carnival “Vista”, a 4,000 guest capacity ship packed with wonderful amenities:

    • Multiple Swimming Pools & Tall Water Slides 

    • Sky Ride--  Elevated bicycle-like track with a great view

    • Sky Course-- Elevated ropes course across the top deck 

    • Miniature Golf, Basketball & Volleyball courts, and lots of Ping-Pong and Foosball tables 

    • IMAX Theater, Comedy Clubs, Karaoke Bars, & Musical Theater Productions

    • Multiple Restaurants, from casual grab-and-go pizza to formal steak and lobster dinners

    • and much more! 

 

DAY 2:  CLASS DAY (at sea)  

Sunday, March 1  

  • In the morning, students will be in class with other Mirus travelers, learning about the ancient Mayan civilization that flourished in Central America for over a thousand years.  

  • Class is over by lunch time, so students have hours of free time to explore the ship and have fun!

 

DAY 3:  CLASS DAY (at sea)   

Monday, March 2

  • In the morning, students will learn about Cenotes (limestone sinkholes that dot the Yucatan landscape by the thousands) plus their connection to Chicxulub, the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs  

  • Class is over by lunch time, so students have hours of free time to explore the ship and have fun!

 

DAY 4:  MAHOGANY BAY (Honduras)  

Tuesday, March 3 

  • Free Day to explore Mahogany Bay on Roatan Island 

  • Activities available include snorkeling, scuba diving, horseback riding, ATV riding, speed boating, kayaking, or just playing and relaxing on the gorgeous white sand beaches of the Caribbean Sea! 

 

DAY 5: BELIZE CITY (Belize)  

Wednesday, March 4

  • Our school group will tour the Lamanai ruins-- one of the largest Mayan archaeological sites in Central America, dating back to 1500 BC. To get to the ruins...

    • First, we’ll drive an hour through the river valley and into the heart of Belize

    • Next, we’ll take a half-hour boat trip along the New River Lagoon, into the Belize Rainforest

    • Once at Lamanai, we’ll tour the ruins and even climb to the top of the ten-story temple to get an amazing view over the rainforest canopy

    • Before heading back to the ship, we’ll enjoy a Belizean lunch cooked with local coconut oil

 

DAY 6: COZUMEL (Mexico)  

Thursday, March 5

  • We have an optional school group tour of 4 cenotes in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico 

    • First, we’ll drive 40 minutes through the Mexican Riviera 

    • Then, we’ll visit and swim in a series of cenotes that used to be sacred Mayan pools

    • At the Naval Cenote, you’ll have the opportunity to canoe and zipline into the water

    • Before heading back to the ship, we’ll enjoy a Mayan lunch with fresh tortillas and guacamole

 

DAY 7:  CLASS DAY (at sea)  

Friday, March 6

  • In the morning, students will take their last class of the trip, wrapping up our study of the historical and physical geography of Central America

  • Class is over by lunch time, so students have hours of free time to explore the ship and have fun!

 

DAY 8: ARRIVE BACK HOME!  (Galveston)

Saturday, March 7  

  • Arrive back at the Port of Galveston, and return home after a memorable school trip!
