"We are so appreciative for your sensitivity, knowledge, and guidance.  THIS is what education should be about.  It isn't about money or funding or testing.  It's about paying attention to the kids and putting them before any agenda.  I know [my child] is in an awesome school."   -- Mirus Parent

MICRO-SCHOOLS:
Where school feels like an extended family

NURTURING, FAMILY-LIKE ENVIRONMENT

The adjective most often used to describe micro-schools like Mirus Academy is "Family-Like".  With our small student population of around 25 students, our teachers and administrators communicate easily with parents and develop personal relationships with students.  Mirus is a friendly and welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated and individuality is embraced.

WHAT IS A MICRO-SCHOOL?

Small private schools with fewer than 100 students are often called "micro-schools".  Mirus was established in 2006 after seeing a need in the community for an educational setting that is between "homeschooling" and "traditional schooling".   At the time, we had never heard the term "micro-school", but in the past few years this educational approach has received widespread attention and publicity.  Parents and students are seeking alternatives to large, stressful, and impersonal schools, and micro-schools can be a great fit for many families.  Every micro-school is different, but most have these characteristics in common:

  • Student population of less than 100

  • Small student-to-teacher ratio

  • Qualified, passionate teachers

  • Multiple ages in the same classroom

  • Nurturing, family-like atmosphere

Micro-schools appear to be a growing phenomenon across the nation.  But, as far as we know, Mirus Academy is the only micro-school in Katy that operates at the high school level.  We've been here for over 15 years, and we look forward to continuing to serve the Katy-area community for many more years to come.
