About the Presentation:

Social media and the internet are wonderful, powerful, and have completely transformed how we learn and communicate. However, our online activity also poses considerable risk. Because of a perfect match between the way these networks are engineered and our biology, it is massively addictive.  Further, the internet is now the preferred way for predators to approach their victims. This presentation will explore how social media can grab our attention and keep it and increase awareness of online dangers. It will go on to offer suggestions for reducing the risks to our children and teens.

About the Presenter:

Dr. Lourdes Valdes is a licensed clinical psychologist in practice for over 30 years.  While specializing in the treatment of anxiety in children and adolescents, Dr. Valdes also has extensive experience treating and managing a variety of disorders including OCD, ADHD, autistic spectrum disorders, oppositional behaviors, and more.  Her methods are active, directive, and educative-- aimed at solving the problems that the client faces here and now.   According to Dr. Valdes: "My practice embraces diversity and inclusion. About the Workshop Series:

"Parenting Today's Teens" is a FREE workshop series sponsored by Mirus Academy, focusing on raising teens with positive psychology for peaceful parenting.  We are an inclusive group and open to all parents of teens in the Katy community.  The profesional presentation will be approximately one hour, followed by discussion and socializing.
